Author Guidelines

Authors are requested to read and follow the guidelines below before submitting a manuscript to the Journal of Applied Informatics and Computing (JAIC). Manuscripts that do not comply with these requirements may be returned to the authors for correction before proceeding to the peer review process.

A. Manuscript Types

JAIC considers the following manuscript types for publication.

1. Original Research Articles

Original Research Articles report new findings derived from theoretical investigations, experimental studies, computational analysis, system development, or empirical research.

Requirements: Manuscripts should clearly state the research problem, objectives, methodology, results, discussion, and conclusions. The findings must provide a clear contribution to existing knowledge or demonstrate a meaningful advancement in practical applications.

2. Review Articles

Review Articles provide a critical and systematic synthesis of existing research on a specific topic within the journal's scope. They should identify research trends, compare existing approaches, evaluate methodological strengths and limitations, and highlight research gaps and future directions.

Review manuscripts may include systematic literature reviews, structured reviews, and other clearly defined evidence-based review approaches.

Requirements: Authors must explain the literature search strategy, selection criteria, analytical approach, and synthesis method, as appropriate to the type of review. Review articles should offer critical insights rather than merely summarize previously published studies.

B. General Requirements

All manuscripts submitted to JAIC must meet the following requirements:

Language Requirements
- Bahasa Indonesia: Manuscripts must follow the applicable Indonesian spelling and writing conventions, including the Ejaan Bahasa Indonesia yang Disempurnakan (EYD). Authors are encouraged to consult the official language guidelines issued by the Indonesian Language Agency.
- English: Manuscripts must be written in clear, grammatically correct, and academically appropriate English. Authors are encouraged to use professional proofreading or language-editing tools, such as Grammarly, to improve language quality. The use of such tools does not replace the authors' responsibility for the accuracy and clarity of the manuscript.
Manuscript Length

Manuscripts must be between 4 and 15 pages, including references, tables, figures, and appendices, if applicable, and must follow the official JAIC template. Manuscripts exceeding 15 pages may be considered subject to prior editorial approval.
Reference Management and Citation Style

Authors are encouraged to use reference management software, such as Mendeley or Zotero, to organize references and ensure consistent citation formatting. All in-text citations and references must follow the IEEE referencing style.
Manuscript Template

All manuscripts must be prepared using the official JAIC Paper Template 2027. Authors must follow the template's formatting requirements for page layout, fonts, headings, figures, tables, equations, and references.
Originality and Publication Ethics

Submitted manuscripts must be original, properly cite all sources, and comply with JAIC's publication ethics policies. Manuscripts must not be under consideration by another journal or publication venue simultaneously. Authors must also comply with JAIC's policies on plagiarism, authorship, research ethics, conflicts of interest, and the use of generative AI, where applicable.

C. Manuscript Structure

Authors should organize their manuscripts according to the structure below. Adjustments may be made when appropriate for the research design, article type, or subject area, provided that the manuscript remains clear, logical, and scientifically rigorous.

1. Title

The title should be concise, informative, and representative of the manuscript's main topic and contribution. The title should contain no more than 10 words and should avoid unnecessary acronyms or abbreviations. Standard abbreviations may be used only when necessary and widely recognized in the relevant field.

2. Abstract

The abstract must not exceed 250 words and must be written as a single, self-contained summary of the study. It should not contain citations or undefined abbreviations.

The abstract should clearly describe:

Objective: The research problem, purpose, or primary objective.
Methodology: The research design, methods, algorithms, models, or procedures used.
Results: The main findings, including relevant quantitative results where appropriate.
Conclusion: The principal conclusions and the significance or implications of the findings.

Authors should ensure that the abstract accurately reflects the content of the manuscript and does not introduce claims unsupported by the results.

3. Keywords

Authors should provide relevant keywords immediately after the abstract. Keywords should represent the main concepts, methods, and application areas of the study. Authors should follow the number and formatting requirements specified in the official JAIC template.

4. Introduction

The introduction should explain the background and context of the research, identify the research problem or knowledge gap, and establish the significance of the study. It should include relevant literature, clearly state the research objectives or questions, and explain the study's expected contribution.

5. Proposed Method or Algorithm (Optional)

For manuscripts involving a newly proposed method, algorithm, model, framework, or system, authors may include a separate section describing the proposed approach. This section should explain the main concepts, design principles, workflow, architecture, or algorithmic procedures, as appropriate.

If no separate proposed-method section is necessary, the relevant content may be incorporated into the Methodology section.

6. Methodology

The methodology section should describe how the research was conducted in sufficient detail to support evaluation and, where applicable, reproducibility. Depending on the nature of the study, it may include:

Research design and procedures.
Data sources, datasets, participants, or experimental materials.
Software, hardware, tools, algorithms, or models used.
System design, implementation, or experimental setup.
Evaluation metrics, statistical techniques, or validation procedures.
Ethical approval and consent procedures, where applicable.

The methods must be appropriate to the research objectives and clearly explained.

7. Results and Discussion

The results and discussion may be presented together or in separate sections, depending on the nature of the research and the structure of the manuscript.

Results should report the findings objectively and clearly, using text, tables, figures, equations, or other appropriate forms of presentation. Results should directly address the research objectives or questions.

Discussion should interpret the findings, explain their significance, compare them with relevant previous studies, and identify their theoretical or practical implications. Authors should also discuss relevant limitations and, where appropriate, directions for future research.

Tables and figures must be clearly labeled, numbered consecutively, and referred to in the manuscript text. All sources of reused or adapted material must be acknowledged, and permission must be obtained where required.

8. Conclusion

The conclusion should summarize the principal findings and explain how they address the research objectives. It should emphasize the study's main contributions and implications without merely repeating the abstract or reproducing the results section.

Authors should avoid introducing new data or claims that have not been discussed in the manuscript. Relevant limitations and recommendations for future research may also be included.

9. Acknowledgments (Optional)

Authors may acknowledge individuals, institutions, organizations, or other parties that contributed to the research but do not meet the criteria for authorship. Funding sources and grant information should be disclosed where applicable.

10. References

Authors should provide at least 15 references, with approximately 15–20 references or more recommended where appropriate for the scope and nature of the study.

At least 60% of the references should preferably come from journal articles. Authors are encouraged to prioritize relevant, credible, and recent scholarly publications, while also citing seminal works when necessary.

All references must be cited in the manuscript and formatted according to the IEEE referencing style. Authors should verify the accuracy of bibliographic information, including author names, article titles, publication years, volume and issue numbers, page ranges, and DOI information where available.

Authors may consult the JAIC guide to using Mendeley or Zotero for assistance with reference management.

D. Final Submission Checklist

Before submitting a manuscript, authors should ensure that:

The manuscript follows the official JAIC template.
The manuscript meets the required length and formatting specifications.
The title, abstract, and keywords meet the journal's requirements.
The manuscript contains the appropriate sections for the research type.
All tables, figures, equations, and citations are properly formatted and referenced.
All references follow the IEEE style and are cited accurately.
The manuscript has been checked for language quality and originality.
All authors meet JAIC's authorship criteria and have approved the submitted version.
All relevant ethical declarations, funding information, conflicts of interest, and generative AI disclosures have been provided, where applicable.
The manuscript is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
