AI Policy
Journal of Applied Electrical Engineering (JAEE) acknowledges the growing application of AI-assisted technologies and generative AI in academic communication and research. JAEE enables the responsible use of these technologies when they enhance human intellectual contribution, critical thinking, scholarly judgment, and accountability rather than replacing it.
This policy is meant to encourage transparency, confidentiality, research integrity, and responsible academic behavior and is applicable to authors, reviewers, and editors.
Permitted AI Use by Authors
Authors may utilize generative AI tools as assistance in preparing their manuscripts, including for language editing, text organization, literature search, brainstorming, and verified computational tasks under human supervision. However, AI must strictly complement, never replace the authors' own scholarly reasoning, critical analysis, and intellectual contribution.
Authors bear full responsibility and legal accountability for the integrity, accuracy, and originality of the entire manuscript. Consequently, authors must:
- Thoroughly review and verify all AI-generated content, facts, figures, and interpretations.
- Cross-check all references to ensure citations represent authentic and verifiable sources (preventing fabricated references).
- Confirm that the work reflects their own independent analysis and scholarly judgment.
- Safeguard confidential, personal, and proprietary data when interacting with AI platforms.
- Comply with all applicable intellectual property, copyright, data privacy, and ethical standards.
AI-Generated References
JAEE prioritizes the accuracy and authenticity of all cited sources. Authors are required to manually verify that every reference in their manuscript is real, relevant, and accurately cited.
Submitting AI-generated citations that are fabricated, false, or grossly inaccurate is a major breach of publication ethics. Where available, authors should include valid DOIs or persistent identifiers to facilitate source verification.
The Editorial Team may audit references during any stage of the editorial or production process. Submissions with fabricated or unverifiable citations are subject to immediate rejection, withdrawal, or appropriate post-publication corrective action in line with ethics standards.
Disclosure of AI Usage
Authors must declare any meaningful use of generative AI tools in their submission. The disclosure must explicitly state:
- The tool's name and service provider;
- Its specific role in preparing the manuscript; and
- Confirmation that the authors thoroughly verified the output and assumed full accountability for the content.
No disclosure is required if AI was not used substantively.
Declaration of AI Usage
"The author(s) used [NAME OF TOOL/SERVICE] for [PURPOSE] during the preparation of this manuscript. The author(s) have verified and edited all resulting content and take full responsibility for the final text."
AI Systems and Authorship
Generative AI tools cannot be listed or cited as authors or co-authors because they do not meet authorship standards. Authorship demands legal and ethical accountability, approval of the final text, and the capacity to defend the research's integrity, duties that can only be fulfilled by human researchers.
AI Integration in Research Methodology
When AI functions as a core research method rather than a writing aid, its implementation must be fully documented in the Methods section to ensure methodological transparency and reproducibility.
Authors should specify:
- Tool/model name, version, and developer or vendor;
- Specific purpose and workflow (including prompts or procedures where relevant);
- Human validation and quality check processes; and
- Any additional technical details required to replicate or evaluate the study.
Using AI within research design is permitted, provided it is fully transparent and methodologically verifiable.
AI-Generated Visuals and Data Presentation
AI must never be used to alter, invent, or misrepresent empirical research data or findings. Data visualizations produced with AI assistance are permissible only if they accurately reflect original datasets through reproducible analytical methods. Any substantive use of AI to generate conceptual diagrams, workflows, or explanatory figures must be clearly disclosed. Authors retain ultimate responsibility for verifying that all visual content is accurate, original, and compliant with copyright standards.
